Joseph Harrison heads on a four-year-old gray gelding called Mater, registered as BR Quiktrip, and uses the session to walk through a critical piece of a head horse's development: the stop. It takes months to build a good sliding stop, and Joseph gets it right before he ever starts roping on a young horse. To compete at the level he needs to in the show pen, his horses have to stop and stop well. If a head horse is not in frame, it cannot face the way it needs to in order to get the time stopped quickly. Joseph walks through the techniques he uses on Mater to make sure he is listening and responding correctly, and talks about how much of a difference the right bridle can make in how a horse responds to your hand.
