Ep. 3: Justin Maass on Scoring & Barrier Strategy
4m 29s
Justin Maass makes the case for one of the most underrated fundamentals in breakaway roping: getting your horse as close to the pen as possible. Using real examples from Bubba Kendricks to Riley Webb, Maass breaks down how even a foot or two of distance can cost you a full swing and why missing the barrier in today's breakaway is essentially the same as breaking it. He also gets into how box length and calf speed affect your score, why barrier management is where most ropers fall apart, and what it actually takes to develop the feel to read the neck rope while you're still in the corner. It's a concept very few ropers have figured out, and Maass explains exactly why.
