Joseph Harrison talks about getting in time with your steer and why the approach can change depending on the situation. Roping user-friendly steers is different from roping at an open roping or rodeo, so Harrison explains how he adjusts his approach. Rather than trying to time the steer all the way down the arena, Harrison gets his rope going as he heads down the pen. He waits until the steer reaches the corner and begins to change direction before deciding how he wants to finish the swing. From there, he either slows down or stays on the gas depending on the speed of the steer. Harrison also talks about the different styles of ropers and how each person may approach timing a little differently. The goal is to find a style that works for you and gives you the best opportunity to catch and win. He explains what works for him and how he applies it in the arena.
