Hope Thompson shares her approach to developing a solid breakaway prospect. She explains why she waits until a horse is around 3 or 4 years old before starting them in the roping pen. In this session, she works with "Savage," a 3-year-old gelding sired by The Animal out of a Dual Rey mare. Hope focuses on key foundation work—ensuring he’s soft in the face, stopping correctly, framing up, flexing, and counter-bending. She keeps a calm demeanor even when cattle bang in the chute, helping build Savage’s confidence and setting him up for success.
